Story time – I recently took a relative shopping. They were in need of a pair of pants, capris specifically.
I can hear you from here – Karra what the hell does capri shopping have to do with creative projects and photography.
Purpose and need.
When asked a few questions, nor only did I discover that they wanted capris that when no longer than their knees, ideally waterproof, light weight enough to wear in 85+ humid conditions and had to have belt loops.
Now, we searched through no less than 5 stores looking for this mythical unicorn pants. If a more throughout discussion had happened before we drove 20 miles round trip, it would have helped narrow down their needs.
I knew as we traversed the second store I needed to approach the hunt for the capris from a different angle.
I asked then to describe what they needed. Not in a condescending tone but one that seemed asked for details. To this point of our journey all I knew what they couldn’t be white, more so cream but not taupe and capri.
Why am I saying this? With the lack of specific details of someone else’a problem, we view things using our filters.
When a possible client submits an inquiry form, they just know they need pictures. That terms ‘pictures’ could mean so many things. Of course they are most concerned with how much but the real concern should be who, what, when, where, why and how. All of those things will determine the price tag.
That’s where working with someone who knows what kinds of questions will guide you to the best solution.
Wanna chat about your needs? Reach out and send a DM.
Why does this matter? When you, yes YOU, the potential client contacts a service provider (me) calls/ensiks/DMs and says that you need ‘pictures’ and you want to know how much will that be, it’s hard to answer that question without a simple background of your needs.
Is that rude of me? Maybe.
If you are offended that I dare ask questions without just giving you a range of prices? Sure that’s fair but if you want price shop, I do have a website that has pricing.
I’m all for helping those who seek me because I have a solid track record of satisfied clients however, it’s a two way street. Help me help you, give me the details of what you need.
